2013 MLB Offseason Player Tracker

Just like it is every offseason in Major League Baseball, players are leaving their previous home for a new team and more money. Some of these players are doing so by choice, while others haven’t had as much say and have been traded. What have been some of the biggest moves of the 2013-14 MLB offseason?

Detroit Tigers trade Prince Fielder to Texas Rangers for Ian Kinsler
In one of the most surprising moves of the offseason, the Tigers decided to end the bro-mance between Fielder and American League MVP Miguel Cabrera after only two seasons. Fielder’s power numbers have dropped in each of his two seasons with the Tigers and the team felt that Kinsler would be a better fit for them in the future. With Fielder gone, Cabrera can move back to third and the team can look to add a new third basemen.

New York Yankees sign former Atlanta Braves catcher, Brian McCann
Heading into the 2013 MLB season, most Atlanta fans knew that the chances of keeping McCann in the offseason with small. I thought the team would have dealt him at the All Star break so they could have at least gotten something in return. Being in the middle of a pennant race prevented that from occurring, but the Braves are ready to move on with Christian Bethancourt and Evan Gattis as the backstop. For the Yankees, the addition of McCann is huge. The backstop’s for the Yankees last year were statistically the worse in the league and with the possibility of losing Robinson Cano, McCann in pinstripes will be great for their lineup.

St. Louis Cardinals Deal former World Series MVP David Freese to Los Angeles Angels
The Cardinals decided to end their ties with the 2012 World Series MVP by dealing him to the Angels. In what was a four-player deal, the Cardinals upgraded their outfield by adding Peter Bourjos and are going in a new direction. Considering their recent success and their ability to seemingly make all the right moves, this is a roster change that will surely work out in their favor.
